Valentines Day Chairlift Speed Dating February 14th

Posted on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in Uncategorized

2-14-09_black-0097Valentines Day at Black was just what the ‘Singles Doctor’ ordered when we hosted our 3rd annual Chairlift Speed Dating Event.   Registration began at 12:30 in the Lostbo Pub and a line formed almost immediately.  Participants hung out and enjoyed our Valentine ‘Aphrodisiac menu and ‘love potions’ from the bar, until the event began at 2pm. With 50 total participants, the women outnumbered the men, but nobody seemed to mind!  When the speed dating line opened at the double chair, everyone headed over and found their match for the ride up.   As the afternoon progressed, the participants continued to ride up and down the mountain, making new acquaintances along the way.   Meanwhile, The Monkey Fist Incident performed great music in the pub, and small groups of ‘new friends’ began to trickle in.  By the time the lifts closed, the pub was again full with Event participants; however, it was no longer a room full of strangers.  The winner of our Best pick up line was Nicole Mullen of Wakefield MA, who went home with a certificate for lodging at The Whitneys Inn, 2 tickets to Black, a dozen beautiful roses from Hills Florist and a bottle of champagne from J-Town Deli.  Many new friendships began that day at Black Mountain, and who knows, maybe even a Love story or two.  For all of you who were there and have a good (G -rated) story to tell…we’d love to hear it!

RETRO DAY JANUARY 31ST

Posted on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in Uncategorized

jbarretrodaySaturday Jan 31st was RETRO DAY at Black Mountain and what a Blast we had!  Folks arrived all day long with photos, stories, gear and even clothing from back in the day, to share with all of us.  It was so rewarding (not to mention comical) to share in these memories with ‘Black Mountain Fans’ of many decades!  One woman not only brought in a photo of herself with friends in 1980, but she even produced the jacket she was wearing in the photo, with the lift ticket still on the jacket!!  Kevin McCarthy won best vintage outfit with his 70’s down jacket that went down to his ski boots and suede face mask that looked very similar to the one worn in many horror flicks.   It was a lucky day for Kevin because he also won the grand prize drawing which was a pass for the remainder of the season!   We enjoyed excellent music from Jeff Conley and the Tin Can Tele band and played Black Mountain history trivia games with even more great prizes!  We even had local artist Marty Sage Gilman onsite with the debut of her Black Mountain Celebration poster which will be for sale here at the mountain.  And of course, in honor of our national standing as the first overhead cable lift in the country, we had our J-bar running all weekend!  We thank all who participated in Retro Day and added to our collection of great memories!  And to those who missed Retro Day, it’s still not too late to share your old collections with us, as we will continue to prepare for our 75th birthday all season long.  Bring us an original photo (clear enough for us to scan) and we will discount your lift ticket for that day!
